Central Market Hall (Központi Vásár csarnok)
Central Market Hall (Központi Vásár csarnok)
This is the largest indoor market in Budapest. There is a huge variety of vegetables, fruits, cheeses and meats. Souvenirs such as paprika and Tokaji are also available. On the second floor you’ll find vendors selling folk art, as well as a small food-court and a restaurant serving traditional Hungarian dishes.
WestEnd City Center
WestEnd City Center
WestEnd is the largest shopping mall in Central Europe.
Insider Tip: Check out the rooftop garden. Budapest’s first Starbucks is also located in the WestEnd City Center, on the second floor, close to the main entrance.
CultiVini
CultVini
CultVini is a wine shop, wine bar, and wine gallery all in one. It places emphasis on local wine and wine culture, featuring the best Hungarian vintages and introducing the country’s 22 wine regions. The wine shop offers 50+ varieties by the glass and over 150 by the bottle from 50 different Hungarian wineries.
CultiVini is unique in that it offers customers a chance to purchase small tastings of a rotating roster of 56 different wines at any time. An in-house sommelier is always on hand to guide you through the vintages. Tasting notes on your favorite wines, information on Hungary’s wine regions and the wineries represented by CultiVini are also available on iPads in the wine shop.
Paprika Market – Vörösmarty tér
Paprika Market – Vörösmarty tér
A spacious new gift store – backed by governement funds – opened on Vörösmarty Square in downtown in November 2015 offering all things Hungarian (a wide range of goods termed “Hungarikum” – that are made/produced exclusively from local ingredients by local people in Hungary – the list is ever-expanding and the requirements to use the term Hungarikum are regulated by law).
Although the place is easy to aceess, especially if you visit the Christmas fair on the square, being right in the city centre, and the products are attractively arranged the store carries lots of “cheap” stuff that simply aren’t worth buying.
A good place to pick up paprika spice (from Kalocsa and Szeged), hot paprika paste,a bottle of pálinka, Unicum spirit, Tokaj wine between the mish-mash of postcards, pins, cheap pottery and other trinkets.
