There are a lot of things to do in hustle and bustle Barcelona. But when you want to escape from the huge touristic crowd and wanted to see another part of Spain, Sitges is a good option for a one day trip. This picturesque village is a fantastic place for families and it is famous because of the gay-friendly atmosphere.
How to get there
Sitges is easy to reach from Barcelona. You can take the train C2 from Sants station or Passeig de Gracia. From here it is only 35 minutes and you´re in beautiful Sitges. A return ticket costs round about 7.60 EU. You can purchase them by the automated machines in the railwaystation. The trains run every twenty minutes, so it´s not a damage when you miss the train. You can also go by bus, they leave every 45 minutes from Universitat and Plaza Espanya. By bus it takes more or less 50 minutes to get to sitges and it will cost 4 euros.

Go by the taxiboat! This boat leaves every day from the port of Barcelona. It sails to sitges in round about 80 minutes and shows you breathtaking views on the Catalan coastline.
What to do?
When you arrive in Sitges, the beautiful whitewashed houses attact your attention. Sitges has a lot of ancient buildings, with romantic influencies and beautiful architecture. Thereby it has a lot of unique boutiques to shop that item that no one has. When you are done shopping, you can visit the church of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla, one of the most charasteristic of Sitges icons. From this tiny mountain you can enjoy the impressive view.
Thereby you can visit the museu Cau Ferrat. This one is the former home and art studio of catalan painter Santiago Rusiñol. This museum is an example of how modernism revered all art forms.
After this cultural activities, it is time to relax! Sitges features seventeen beaches, all with their own atmosphere. The beaches near to the city are often very crowded, but when you walk a little bit to the east, you´ll find less crowded beaches.

When you are going out for dinner in Spain, and you want to eat like a Spainiard, the choice is easy: paella or tapas! Sitges offers a lot of good restaurants to eat this tipical food from Spain. For tapas you really need to go to El Pou. A good tapas restaurant in the middle of Sitges. On the waterfront of Sitges you can eat perfect classic paella at Santa Maria Restaurant. They serve very good food, and you can enjoy the beautiful view from the terrace!
