We are proud to announce our new destination: Prague! The city of historical buildings, a lot of towers and romantic streets: the perfect destination for your next city trip is this beautiful city! In this blog post we´ll give you 4 known and 4 less known hot spots in Prague.
Charles Bridge
One of the famous spots in Prague is the Charles Bridge. This bridge connects the old town with Malá Strana (the little quarter, or: lesser quarter because of the poor people who lived there). When the first bridge collapsed after a heavy flood in the 14th century,the Charles Bridge was built and it´s said that egg yolks where mixed into the mortar to strengthen the construction of the bridge to prevent another collapse. At both sides of the bridge there are big towers which can be climbed to enjoy the stunning view from Prague!
Astronomical clock
This clock is the oldest functioning astronomical clock of the world! A enthusiastic crowd is clapping every hour when the bells chime, two doors above the clock face slide open and the Apostles move into the view. Next to the ”walk of the apostles”, the clockwork also represents the position of the sun and the moon and the calendar dial. For 600 years this clock is functioning. It´s a beautiful piece of art in the old part of Prague, and when the bells chime there is a rarely atmosphere.
Prague castle
according to the Guinness Book of Records, the Prague Castle is the largest castle area in the world. 70.000 square meters with churches, gardens, alleyways and royal residences. You can´t miss the St. Vitus Cathedral and the St Wenceslao Chapel in it, this wonderful place is decorated with beautiful paintings about the Passion of Christ, in the corner of the chapel there is a door with seven locks that leads to the Czech Crown Jewels, which are only showed once in the eight years to the public(!)
Letna Park
If you´ve done all the major sights, and would like to see something less crowded, the Letna Park is a good option! First you can enjoy the great view over Prague from the metronome and beside that you can enter the beautiful park. Fun Fact: Michael Jackson kicked off his world tour at the park in 1996! When you want to see this part of the city, you´ll probably have to walk to this less known spot of Prague, but it´s worth it because this place is not on the radar for most tourists. Little tip from us: enjoy your beer (and the view..) at Letná Beer Garden.
Art house cinemas
Chzechs are during history very enthusiastic moviegoers. These days this fact can still be seen: a couple of good and old movie theaters, like Bio Oko and Kino Aero, still excist in Prague. They are a very good alternative for the large cinemas. Every old art house cinema is furnished with interesting interiors and funny architectural elements. Thereby there is often a cosy bar to have a drink after the movie. Don’t be afraid: they also show a lot of English movies!
Divoká Sárka
To have a real escape from the crowded city you have to visit Divoká Sárka. A beautiful valley where you can enjoy the great nature during a hike. For the real sporty ones: you can also enjoy the swimming pool (with fresh water from the lake) and play a game of golf!
Jazz Clubs
When you think of Prague, most of the city visitors don’t think about Jazz scenes. But this surprising city has a really colorful jazz scene. There are a lot of ancient and characteristic jazz clubs. We recommend Reduta Jazz Club, the oldest jazz club in Prague with a really good atmosphere. Nice to know: The American president Bill Clinton showed his saxophone talent over here!
Climbing Babies
The tv tower is a very unique spot in Prague. In the city there is a lot of modern streetart and this tv tower is the tallest and most outlandish building in Prague. There are enormous babies crawling up the sides of the pillar. In the building you can have dinner or drink a cofffee while wathcing the stunning 360 degree view.
