Colosseum
Those who visit to the Italian capital Rome should visit the Colosseum. This immense construction work of antiquity still speaks to the imagination. The Coliseum, also known as Flavian Amphitheater, is one of the attractions of the Italian capital Rome. It is a very old building, it was already in the year 80 ad completed at the time of the Roman Empire. The Coliseum has a bloody history, if there were full of gladiator fights and executions. But other cultural expressions such as stage and shows took place.

Forum Romanum
The ruins of the Roman Forum are perhaps even more impressive than the Coliseum. This square was the political, religious and legal centre of the Roman Empire. It was built on a swamp between three hills (Capitol, Palatini and rooms enjoy independent access from) that at the end of the 7th century BC by the Etruscans was reclaimed. They used it as a burial ground; the Romans made it primarily a marketplace of that soon was surrounded by important buildings. So there were temples built making the Forum the Centre of the Roman culture. After the 7th century there is much lost due to earthquakes and looting (the marble was used for the construction of St. Peter’s Church). Yet there is still much to see; the Forum is one of the most visited attractions of Rome.

Vatican City
The religious center of the Roman Catholic Church is a separate State, but you can enter it without a passport. The walls around Vatican City are guarded by members of the well-trained Swiss Guard. The guards are decked out in colorful costumes. Vatican City is about a half square kilometres and with that the smallest State in the world.

Pantheon
Even before the beginning of our era, a temple stood on the place of the Pantheon. During the great fire of 80 n. Chr. the original temple was destroyed and 45 years later emperor Hadrian gave the command to rebuild the temple. The original text on the building, by the way, Hadrian left intact: m. AGRIPPA. URL.F.COS. TERTIUM. FECIT (“Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, consul for the third time, built this ‘).

Piazza di Spagna
The piazza is a gathering place for young and old and in summer the stairs are decorated with colorful flowers. The Spanish Square is usually named after the most famous part of it: the Spanish steps of Rome. The 138 Trinitá dei Monti steps lead up to the French Church that was built by the order of Louis XII.

Trevi Fountain
The most famous and largest fountain of Rome. You may not swim in it like Anita Ekberg did, but throwing a coin in the fountain is allowed. The fountain was designed by Niccolò Silva in 1732. It took as many as thirty years before the work was completed and Silva himself has not experienced it. The fountain was built by the order of Pope Clement XII as a sign of its power and wealth.

Villa Borghese
Villa Borghese is not only the name of a villa with a unique art collection, but also the name of the park around it, in the English landscape style. A beautiful park to escape the hustle and bustle of Rome. The Borghese family was very influential, especially after a member of the family-Camillo Borghese – was appointed to pope.

Castel Sant'Angelo
The Castel Sant’Angelo was for centuries a safe refuge for the Popes; Today it is a museum. Fun is also the underground corridor to the Vatican since 2000 is opened up. This castle just before the entrance of the Vatican was originally intended as a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian.

San Clemente
Rome not fun for children? It is, you just have to choose the right attractions such as Basilica San Clemente, near the Colosseum.
