La Mercè is a giant free festival in the center of Barcelona, there are many activities and events going on in the streets. La Mercè is an official public holiday in Barcelona and it is even the largest festival of Barcelona. This festival is held in honor of the patron saint la Mercè, the Virgin of Mercy. The festival is a great opportunity to see more of the Catalan culture, because Barcelona is also the capital of Catalonia.

Friday 21:
Mother of nature show – Parc de la Ciutadella – 9 pm and 2 am This is a show with lights, water, architecture and sculptures. The show has the message that invites us all to value the natural resources of the planet.
Saturday 22:

The Correfoc – Via Laietana – 6.30pm (for children) and 8.30pm (for adults) The Correfoc is the highlight of the La Mercè festival. The streets will be filled with fireworks, fire crackers and devils. There is a show for children and one for adults. Tip! We recommend you to wear protective clothes and glasses, because of the fire spitting around.
Sunday 23:

Castellers (human towers) – Plaça de Sant Jaume – 11.30 am and 12 noon The Castellers is a event where people of Barcelona, and their guests Minyons de Terrassa and Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls, create spectacular buildings. The humans want to be as high as possible.
Monday 24:
The firework endshow – Avinguda Reina Maria Cristina – 10 pm The annual festival is over, but the firework endshow may not be forgotten! This year Lisbon is our guest city, so you will music related to this city and there will also be music like Barcelona Jazz and a selection of the best music featured at la Mercè this year.
