The first edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival took place in 1976 in the Dutch Congress Centre of The Hague. At that time the festival had six stages, three hundred artists and about nine thousand visitors. In the first year of the festival there were performances of jazz legends like Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz . Over the years North Sea Jazz Festival has developed into a renowned international event. Nowadays approximately seventy thousand visitors come to the festival every year.
