Ice Skating in Barcelona, Fact or Illusion?

If you visit Barcelona during low season you will find a nice soft Mediterranean winter. But for the ones that are fond of King Winter and can’t do without the typical “winter-things”; how about ice skating in Barcelona during Christmas time to give the real winter-feeling..

You will probably wonder if that is even possible. Well, the answer is: yes! Ice skating in Barcelona is possible! Right in the centre of Barcelona at the famous “Plaça de Catalunya” you can find a (temporary) ice rink. This beautiful stationed roofed ice rink gives you the opportunity to skate in a nice Mediterranean temperature. The temperature inside the rink will be between 5 and 15 Celsius. A jacket, some gloves or even a scarf is recommended.

This year is the second time that the ice rink is build. Last year the rink was a great success. Lots of locals have visited the rink. For many of them it was the first time. This makes the ice ring ideal for beginners.
Because the ice skating rink was a great success they have decided to build a bigger and a better one this year. The rink covers 3,600 square meters. It makes it one of the biggest ice rinks in Europe with room for over 350 skaters.

The ice rink offers you a full programme of activities. For example, you can follow short beginner courses in varies ice sports (hockey, speed skating). It is also possible to skate as spare time, the costs of one hour are 8 euro. This includes gloves and skating boots.

When you finished ice skating there is a bar where you can drink some hot chocolate eat a hot dog and relax. This is one of the rare bars on Plaça de Catalunya. I would really recommend visiting the ice skating rink in Barcelona, its different and you would not expect to find an ice skating rink on Plaça de Catalunya.

Event date: Thursday 22nd November 2012 to Wednesday 9th January 2013
