For the very first time, Barcelona has a new facility to celebrate the Christmas season. After months of negotiations, this idea got approved. We are talking about an ice rink in the city centre of Barcelona, at Plaza Catalunya. Plaza Catalunya is Barcelona’s busiest square and a famous place in Barcelona. It is a central place where two famous streets meet eachother; “Las Ramblas” and “Passeig de Gracia” and this Christmas you can ice skate across this square. The ice rink has room for approximately 400 people. You can see pictures of  skaters on the ice rink on a giant LED screen at Plaza Catalunya.

What can you expect?

Between December the 2nd – 2011 and January the 9th – 2012 you can enjoy Christmas time at Plaza Catalunya. There is going to be an ice rink of 1200 square meters, an ice cream bar, stands where you can buy hot beverages and snacks, a dressing room and a place to rent your skates. If you want to rent skates it will cost between five and six euros for half an hour and for 60 minutes the price will rise up to 8 euros.

Barcelona shopping

You can start skating a few days after Christmas in Barcelona started. On the 30th of November the Christmas lights will be turned on and this will be celebrated with a great Barcelona Shopping Night with lots of events. This large ice rink at Plaza Catalunya should promote the beautiful city Barcelona as a shopping destination and encourage the campaign about Christmas in Barcelona.
