If you are visiting Barcelona around Christmas you should visit the Christmas Market La Fira de Santa Llúcia. This big and authentic Barcelonan Christmas market is a truly amazing experience.

This year the La Fira de Santa Llúcia is celebrating her 226th birthday. The Christmas Market was founded in 1786. Over dozens of years it has grown to the biggest in Barcelona. Now a day the market counts 283 stalls.

The 283 stalls are divided in 2 groups. Approximately 100 stalls are selling traditional Christmas products and the other stalls are selling varies products that are more from this time. The popular products of the traditional stalls are the “figuritas de Belén,” which are the tiny figures to make your Christmas nativity scene called “pessebres“. Another popular product that the traditional stalls are selling are the Christmas crappers in Spanish they are called “Caganers“.

The huge amounts of stalls of the La Fira de Santa Llúcia are stationed in one of the most beautiful areas of Barcelona, Plaça Nova right in front of the Barcelona Cathedral. The best way to travel to this event is the Metro. The most nearby station is called Jaume I.

If you say Christmas market you would think about Christmas markets in Germany. You would not think so easily about a Christmas market in Barcelona.  But I would really recommend visiting the La Fira de Santa Llúcia. It is very different than the Christmas markets in Germany for example.  If you visit the Christmas market I also would recommend you to stay in a nice apartment, maybe this  apartment in Barcelona?

Below you can find the dates of the event.
